The easiest win you’ll ever get

You launch the site. It looks sharp, loads fast, tells the brand story properly. Then everyone moves on to the next project.

That's the mistake. The site isn't the finish line. There's a twenty minute job sitting outside the CMS that does more for how many people actually find your client than another round of homepage tweaks ever will. A Google Business Profile.

Why it matters more than the site itself, some days

When someone searches a business name or something like "custom furniture maker near me", Google doesn't show your beautiful new homepage first. It shows the profile. Address, hours, photos, reviews, a map pin, all before anyone clicks through to the site you spent weeks on.

An empty or missing profile hands that moment straight to a competitor who spent five minutes setting theirs up properly. You built the better website. They show up first anyway.

What actually goes in it

Most businesses fill in a name and an address and call it done. That's the floor, not the job. Here's what separates a profile that works from one that just exists.

The exact right category. Not the closest one, the exact one. "Custom home builder" and "general contractor" pull completely different search intent, even though they sound similar.

A description that says what you actually do. Not a copy paste of the meta description. Write it for someone scanning a map, not reading a homepage.

Real photos, updated regularly. Finished projects, the team, the space. Listings with recent photos get more clicks than listings that haven't changed since setup.

Every field filled, matching the site exactly. Same phone number, same address, same business name, character for character. Google checks for consistency and quietly punishes profiles that don't match.

Posts and updates. Google lets you post like a mini social feed straight into the listing. Almost nobody uses it. That's precisely why it works when you do.

The part everyone skips

Reviews aren't a nice to have, they're the single biggest trust signal on the entire listing. Don't wait for them to trickle in. Ask every happy client directly, the week the job wraps, while the goodwill is still fresh.

The actual payoff

Complete profiles get more clicks, more map views and more trust, and Google feeds that straight back into how the business ranks. It's compounding, not one off.

Set it up properly once. Keep it updated. That's the whole job. Skip it and you've built a beautiful website that nobody finds until it's too late to matter.
